Intuit Connect 2024 has a LGBTQ+ Meet Up

🌈 Regarding the Intuit Connect Agenda: A Closer Look at the LGBTQIA+ Meetup ðŸŒˆ

Dear LGBTQ+ Accountants,

I’m sure many of you have perused the Intuit Connect agenda and noticed the scheduled LGBTQIA+ Meetup. While the prospect of such an event is exciting, I find myself in a curious position—one of cautious optimism.

Let me explain.

  1. Our Collective Efforts:
    • Richard Roppa-Roberts, Rebeccah Johnson, Dave Kersting, and I have been working to create a space for LGBTQAI+ accountants. We envisioned a meetup where we could connect, share insights, and foster a sense of community.
    • Rebeccah even submitted our proposal to Intuit, hoping to host an LGBTQAI+ Meetup in a manner similar to the successful group of Black Accountants hosted by our friend Nayo. Unfortunately, we were turned down.
  2. The Familiar Language:
    • Here’s where it gets interesting: The language used in the session description for Intuit’s meetup bears a striking resemblance to what our group submitted. Yet, no one is listed as the host.
    • Call me a skeptic, but this raises questions. Who’s behind it? What are their intentions? Is this a genuine effort to support our community?
  3. The Missing Host:
    • The absence of a named host adds to my suspicion. Transparency matters. Who’s steering this ship?
    • I hope Intuit sheds more light on this meetup. Perhaps they’ll reveal the guiding force behind it and clarify their intentions.
  4. My Concerns:
    • My primary concern: If this isn’t led by the LGBTQ+ accounting community, what purpose does it serve? Could it be a mere data collection exercise?
    • Are they compiling a list of LGBTQ+ and ally professionals for their database? And if so, for what purpose?
  5. Proceed with Caution:
    • Regrettably, until we know more about Intuit’s true intentions, I encourage those who might attend (especially those still closeted at work) to exercise caution.
    • Let’s protect our community. We’ve come too far to risk anyone’s well-being.
  6. Nervous Nelly or Vigilant Advocate?:
    • Maybe I’m overly cautious, but recent actions by Intuit have left me wary. Our profession deserves genuine support, not mere optics.

In the spirit of openness, let’s seek answers. Let’s ensure that any meetup truly serves our LGBTQ+ community. 🌟

Stay vigilant, stay connected, and remember: We’re stronger together.
