This site is a safe place for members of the LGBTQ and our allies who work in accounting, tax, and finance and for people who are looking for our services to come together. Other industries have similar groups and within the accounting profession there are groups for different minorities, but no one focusing on LGBTQ members.
Why have this directory?
The LGBTQ community is unique and we have different needs and concerns when it comes to our finances and taxes. There are also valid concerns about treated fairly and equally when it comes to finding a service provider.
I tried to find some organizations or resources when I prepared for a presentation on being gay in the accounting field. To be honest, I couldn’t find anything. I found organizations that help and support many other minority groups, but nothing targeted towards our community.
I know there are LGBTQ business owners who would prefer to work with someone in our community or an ally. I also know LGBTQ taxpayers who would like to work with someone who understands our community. It’s a shame that we still have these concerns, but they’re valid and understandable given everything that’s going on in today’s world.
It is my hope that this resource can be used to create a community for LGTBQ tax, accounting, and finance professionals as well as our allies and clients.
What's next?
This is the part that exciting. This may be a dud and nothing come from it. However, it could bring us together in a way that’s not available today. Connecting clients and service providers as well as creating a safe space for LGBTQ members to have conversations and create meaningful connections.
I’m open to suggestions on improvements and filling the needs of our community.
